This is another cross stitch design of Derpy Hooves/ Ditzy Doo. So thats a few already but who can resist just how cute she is. So she is trotting somewhere quite happily in this picture. I imagine she is in search of some muffins to eat.
Her cutie mark isn't visible in this picture because it is mostly behind her wing so I didn't simply forget to draw it.

This cross stitch design is just the right size for a cushion or a framed picture/wall hanging it comes up at about 8 and a half x 8 inches when stitched on 14 count aida.
I always wondered if I could sew something this large onto the back of a denim jacket with a very large piece of soluable aida.

My stash of cross stitched Christmas cards for 2014

My stash of cross stitched Christmas cards for 2014

Hello everyone.
This week I thought I would show off the Christmas cards I made for last year. I could not post them before Christmas else my family who also read my blog would have the surprise totally ruined for them before the post got to them.
All of the designs sewn here are from one book: Two-Hour Cross-Stitch 515 Fabulous designs
I have also sewn some other patterns from this book, and written a review (can you tell I really enjoyed using it?)
If you want to know more about this book I have written a little review: http://buzybobbins.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/craft-book-review-two-hour-cross-stitch.html

These cards are all decorated with some simple flower shapes I found in the pound shop near me. Whats nice about these that by picking the snowy colours (white and blue) they can also pass for snowflakes.
I'm thinking for next year I want to get I really cool Merry Christmas stamp for my cards. Would you believe all of the craft shops near me had sold out of that type of stamp in November when I went to have a look? So the only one I have is really small, it barely stands out on a card at all.

But then this will work best for big bold and colourful designs, it may look out of place with a very delicate stitch next to it. I shall have to invest in a larger bolder stamp to stand out on bold cards.

And finally heres a pair of Christmas cards. I just love the stocking designs in the book.
I chose this marbelled paper because my own fireplace happens to have a marbled design. This has given me an idea for using this type of card to make a cute fireplace with some stockings. I'll post the card up if it looks nice when I am done.

Craft book review: Two-Hour Cross-Stitch - 515 Fabulous designs

Craft book review: Two-Hour Cross-Stitch 515 Fabulous designs

Book title: Two-Hour Cross-Stitch 515 Fabulous designs
By: Patrice Boerens

ISBN: 0-8069-0952-8

What is this book about?

This book is full of small and not too difficult cross stitch designs. There are a wide variety of designs on a range of topics including Nature, celebrations, Victorian and Children's themed designs.

Who is this book for?

I would recommend this book for beginning cross stitchers. The small and simple designs allow a new stitcher the satisfaction of finishing a project without committing to a large and daunting project.
Though more experienced Cross stitch fans may also enjoy a quick stitch inbetween projects or something to whip up in a hurry for a last minute card or present.
In addition since there is a nice variety of designs its easy to find something suitable for any occasion.

How are the charts presented?

Each chart is presented in black and white with symbols. The size of each chart is not too small so I havn't had to get my maginifier out for this one. On each page is a quick reference chart for the thread symbols and colours. However only the numbers are shown for each symbol so if using alternative threads you may find yourself relying on the photographs to the side of each chart.
It is a lovely addition to the book that beside each chart there is also an example of the finished stitch to help in picking a design to sew and to help working out what colour to sew in.

Backstitch in this book tends to line up with the holes in the Aida making the charts easier to read. However since the charts are all in black and white I have been having difficulty making out what colour thread to use for the backstitch, particularly on pages where more than one backstitch colour is listed. On many designs it can be made out from the photographs but on a few I just guessed at what colour would look the best.

Are there any extras in this book?

No not really, unless you count a basic how to cross stitch instruction. However since there are so many charts in this book I do not fault it for having no additional content.
However this does mean that this book is not going to be a complete guide to the craft and you will need to supplement it with another book or two to have instructions on what to do with your stitching after you have sewn it.

Do the stitches really take two hours?

This question will be subjective depending on the stitcher's skill and concentration. However I have been cross stitching seriously for about 5 years (though learnt to do so much younger) and found that many of the designs I sewed took less than two hours though a couple with a large amount of backstitch took a little longer however this could be because I am terribly slow at backstitch. (that being my I design cross stitch with very little backstitch)
A few of the cards I sewed from this book took me less than two of my lunch breaks (each break giving me about half an hour sewing time) This meant all of my cards were easily done in time for Birthdays and Christmas.

I will be posting the pictures of the cards I made soon so watch this space for some examples of my favourite stitches from this book. :)

UPDATE: Here are  the Christmas designs I made from this book turned into my stash of this years Christmas cards: http://buzybobbins.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/my-stash-of-cross-stitched-christmas.html

This design was originally charted in Anchor threads and I used a conversion chart to find the DMC numbers so for a picture most accurate to the chart use Anchor Threads.

Hello everyone.
This chart of a pink rose was drawn for a good friend of mine, he betted me that I could not make a picture he took into a chart. The challenge was to use as few colours as possible, whole stitches only  and definitely no popcorn or scattered stitches.

So this design is all ready for Valentines day. I'm posting it very early because a large design needs time to stitch (as we all well know)

I think that this design could make a really lovely shopping bag or cushion using a bold fabric as backing.
I definitely want to attempt to make a very small version for cards. Hopefully I can sketch it before February this time :)

Please let me know if any colours are off and I will amend them in the chart.

This design was actually rather difficult to draw. I found her hair with all its detail hard to fit in to cross stitch without resorting to backstitch. But since I prefer designs with whole stitches only I tried to make it happen.
I must admit the holes in her body are actually a little creepy and those holes in her wings. I do wonder if she is magically assisted to fly since those wings cannot be aerodynamic.
Does anyone think the changelings will make a reappearance? I doubt it seems like they were well and truly vanquished and if they are truly like insects a colony without a queen doesn't have much chance to thrive.
