Fur topped stocking Christmas card cross stitch design

Hello everyone,
Its that time of year again where we all start stocking up on our Christmas cards. There are just so many to send that I tend to make a few at a time all throughout the year. This was an idea I had for a quick motif to sew so I can get a one or two done in a nice evening of sewing.

For those of you wondering, the robin is from World of Cross stitching Magazine and the bauble at the bottom is just a circle filled in with verigated thread to create the colour pattern inside.

Stocking design to add a fur top

On this design I have left off the regular furry top of the stocking so that a regular piece of craft fur can be added instead. To do this simply cut a small rectangle of craft fur and sew it on after sewing the design on aida. Don't forget to use thread which matches the colour of the fur to ensure it looks neat when finished.

After the fur us sewn on the piece can be mounted to a card in your preferred fashion for cross stitch. In these pictures I have used apature cards but this can go on the front of s flat card if needed.

Theres no thread numbers for this one since this design will work with almost any colour so pick one you like or have a little bit spare from other projects.

How to make a simple felt flower Mothers day/ Easter card

Hello everyone,
Today here is a quick tutorial for a Mothers day card just in case anyone needs something that can be completed before the weekend. Did anyone leave it a little bit late this year?
Don't forget in the UK mothers day is on Sunday March 6th this year.
In the US you have a little more time as Mothers day is not celebrated until the 8th of May, but still don't forget to celebrate your mother or any other wonderful woman in your life.

This bright and colourful card doesn't only have to be for Mothers day, it could also be a lovely Easter card too. This will make a nice change from the typical egg and bunny motifs while still being able to celebrate new life and the beginning of spring which we see around Easter time.

Without further ado lets get this tutorial started shall we?

What you will need:
A blank card and matching envelope (choose any colour you like or have handy)
A green felt tip pen or pencil
Felt in various colours (again choose any colours you like but be sure to include a nice yellow for the center of each flower)
Glue, I used a little PVA glue
Scissors

Step 1:
On the front of your card draw some stems for your flowers. Try not to bunch the lines too close together so there is room for the flower heads.

Here I used little wavy lines for each flower and made all of the stems different heights. Different heights on your flowers is an easy way to space out the flowers a little more and to make the card a little more interesting.

Step 2:

Choose your felt colours to make the flowers. and cut out four or five small petal or teardrop shapes per flower.

Step 3:
Glue your petals around the top of the stems with the points facing towards the top of your green lines.
Do this for each one of your lines.

Step 4:

Lastly cut a small circles of yellow felt and glue them in the middle of each flower.

Once all of the glue is dry you card will now be ready to write a lovely note inside just in time to send to your wonderful Mother. :)

While making your cards remember you can make the stems any shape you like, here are a few examples of other things you can try.
Also you could use any spare green felt to make little leaves if you wanted to.

How to make a Minion Birthday card

Hello everyone,
This month I made a sweet Birthday card for my friend who is a big fan of the Minions so heres a little tutorial on how to make your own.

What you will need:

Scissors
Glue (I used a glue stick, Ignore the PVA in the picture I took that before I found where I put the glue sticks)
Scrap paper
Black felt tip pen
Grey Felt or paper
A yellow card (hopefully you can get a matching yellow envelope)

Paper in black, white and brown though you may want green if you wish to make a card designed around Bob, to use for his one green eye.

Step 1:
On your scrap paper draw out a set of circles.
You will need one large circle for the eye, a smaller circle for the iris and an even smaller one for the pupil.
Then a circle which is larger than the eye with another inside for the goggles.
I used several cups to  draw around

Cut these circles out and ensure that they fit onto your card. if they are too big or too small try drawing some more circles on the scrap paper until you feel it is right. This will help you save your coloured paper for the final card.
Renember if you are making a card of a minion with two eyes instead of one the two eyes are generally smaller than one so make the circles smaller for this variation.

Step 2:
Take the ring for the goggles and use it as a template to cut it out of your grey paper or felt. If cutting out of felt it is easier to do so if you pin the paper to the felt to keep it still as you cut.
Then cut out the rest of the circles
The largest in white
The middle one in Brown
The smallest in black.

Step 3:

Take your card and round out the top two corners as shown in the below picture.

Step 4:

Glue the white circle on to the card slightly above half way up.

Step 5:

Next cut two rectangles of black paper. They need to go between the edge of the white circle and the edges of the card when glued on. These represent the band which holds the Minions goggles on.

Step 6:

Glue on your circle of grey paper/ felt, make sure it covers the edges of the white circle and no white peeks out from behind it. 

Step 7:

Glue on your Iris and pupil and allow the glue to dry before the next step.

Step 8:
Now for the fun part, take your black pen and draw on the mouth and hair of your Minion.
It may well be a good excuse to re-watch the Minions movie to work out what expression and hair cut you want to use. :)

Step 9:

Finally don't forget to write inside your card. Here are a few Phrases in Minion language you may find useful for this:

Minion language -> English

Bello -> Hello

Para Tu -> For you

Bi-do -> I'm sorry

Poopeye! -> Goodbye!

Muak Muak Muak -> Kiss Kiss? 

Banana! -> Banana!
